Winter is hot now

At a time when men’s and women’s collections are being shown together, bankers are ditching their suits, and dress codes in general are leaning more casual, it’s good to be Tom Horne and William Green. They started their London-based men’s label, L’Estrange, in 2013 with one goal: to reimagine the hoodie. But unlike their athleisure- or street-minded counterparts, they wanted to elevate it, not trick it out with graphics or oversize proportions. Smooth cotton jersey, a tailored fit, and suit-inspired details (like chest pockets, a silk lining, and custom gold hardware) all add up to a hoodie you could wear to a nice dinner or—if you work in a “smart casual” environment, as so many guys do these days—to work. The one place you probably shouldn’t wear your L’Estrange hoodie is the gym. Horne and Green cringe at the freshly clichéd spin class–to–brunch scenario. “The idea of wearing the same clothes to work out and then for the rest of the day afterward . . . ” Horne trails off. By nixing the hoodie’s athletic tendencies, L’Estrange has made it a collectible, covetable item you wouldn’t want to sweat in, like your favorite cashmere sweater or leather jacket.

Suggestions for valentine's day gifts

We all intend to plan ahead, but too often let the day-to-day minutia get in the way of making a calendar for the year. Sure, you can’t know every detail to anticipate. Heck, you can’t know half the priorities that will pop up in any particular month.
